IMAGINALCO
Annual Report 2019
Imaginalco
at a glance
In 2012, we planted a seed on uncertain ground. Seven years later, after much nurturing in the form of caring, working and learning, a tree has been formed and the fruit of our labor has nurtured our community.
In 2019, our roots found the necessary soil to expand and today, they seek harvest in other territories.
Who we are
Imaginalco is a social project that through its spaces and programs, gives tools, a healthy social network and opportunities for the girls, boys and youth in vulnerable situations, in order for them to live full lives with the opportunity of choosing their own paths.
We want to be part of the construction of a safer, healthier and more united community, with opportunities for all and with less violence, in Malinalco, Estado de México.
After 7 years of work, constant research and learning, we are starting to share our knowledge and to help in the decision making in other communities within the country.
Our objectives
-
We contribute to the integral development of girls, boys and youth with slim socioeconomic opportunities, situations of violence and drug use.
-
We work with these children and young people for them to be able to live a full life and choose their own paths.

Our finances

Our spaces
Having and maintaining dignified and adequate areas is essential to achieve our goals. Physical spaces allow us to create safe environments, where we help each other, take care of ourselves and have fun. Thanks to the commitment of our allies, in 2019 we took enormous steps in this regard.

We have our own space!
This year we bought our own space, it is in the “Espacio Cultural Seis Calles” and we are happy to have a brand new area that is worthy to receive our children, youth and all the families we support.

We invested in the Yaotécatl soccer field
Today the Yaotécatl soccer field is more professional than ever!
We installed a fence, an office and a water intake to take care of the space.

We adapted “Xolocasa” and built a yurt
This mobile classroom, and the area that we remodeled thanks to the support of dozens of volunteers, is now a space that generates containment and allows us to monitor our participants much more closely.
Girls, boys and youth
"What I like most about Imaginalco's social work is that an important part of it is oriented towards the formation of social capital for the community. By involving local youth in the operation of the project and accompanying them in its process of training and education in different areas, the result is very satisfactory, as they become agents of change in favor of their community."
César Ariza, Former collaborator in Imaginalco

Healthy families
"Imaginalco helped me a lot to get ahead, I was in depression, and thanks to their advice and the support I have received, I got ahead. My daughter, who is the one who has been assisting Imaginalco, is much happier, she hurries more doing her chores in the house in order to go to Imaginalco; now she's even better behaved. My husband has also benefited from the talks he has attended, he has been making safer decisions with his children. I think Imaginalco has helped the community, most of the kids I see there were getting out of line, and now I see them calmer and healthier. It's very important that Imaginalco is here, it is a great help for my family and the whole community. "
María del Carmen Hernández, participating mother

United community
"I have been able to see the evolution process of Mictlán. Since it emerged it has been an initiative that has filled me with joy for the great capacity it has to bring together so many people from all walks of life in our community. It has brought together all the organizations and groups that work for a common goal, and through Mictlán we have been able to join and feel the strength and cohesion that is achieved with art and celebration, and that on a deeper level manages to put us all on the same plane. "
Teresa Ojeda, Collaborator in the Recorrido al Mictlán through Voices and Visions of Malinalco and Ameyalli

Advocacy
Imaginalco beyond Malinalco
"It is not only important, but necessary, that projects such as Imaginalco promote conversation and reflection on the use of inhalant drugs in Mexico. Otherwise, an inclusive dialogue in which a diversity of voices are involved is not likely to happen. These type of voices are not usually incorporated into the citizen participation scheme, since it is rare for public bodies to convene talks such as the "Hablemos del Tolueno" meeting."
Andrés Hirsch Soler, Founder of ReverdeSer Colectivo

Sustainable projects
"It's important for me to support organizations like Imaginalco, who within their strategy seek to generate resources that support the economic sustainability of the organization. It is a difficult goal to achieve and one that I respect a great deal, especially for the expenses involved in its operation. I think that little by little, projects like Xoloplastics or Seis Garritas ensure the long-term viability of Imaginalco."
Antonio García Arana, recurring donor in Imaginalco

Our team
People are the most important component in Imaginalco, because our work is based on building healthy relationships that inspire us to transform ourselves and transform our environment. In 2019, we celebrate the integration of new people, and we recognize those who have chosen to close their cycle with us.

"I have followed the Imaginalco process, how they communicate their projects and their structure. Their website and social networks reflect clarity and honesty. They reflect the people who make up the team: their determination, love for what they do and their humanity. Imaginalco inspires. "
HELIOS NIETO,
XANHARU DIRECTOR
Thank you!
To all our allies, donors, collaborators and friends, thank you very much for your support!

"In the last 8 years, Imaginalco has managed to open horizons where there were none before or in the imagination, support where there was emptiness, respect, where there were rivalries, trust where there were insecurities, cordiality instead of conflict. Imaginalco changes lives and it is what I like most about the organization. "

Imaginalco in the face of a global emergency

Covid-19
Due to the seriousness of the situation we are going through, we communicate in our 2019 annual report that we are taking immediate action in this regard.
Given the socioeconomic effects that the community in Malinalco is facing, we have made the necessary modifications to our strategy to serve families with a short and long-term care program.
If you want to know more about our strategy and support it, do not hesitate to contact us.
